About Sacro Occipital Technic

SOT was developed in 1925 by Dr Major De Jarnette, a doctor and engineer whose vision went beyond simple chiropractic adjustments to deliver optimum health for his patients.

As humans, our health is complex and holistic so, when one part of our system is not functioning properly, this impacts on our physical wellbeing. SOT applies the principles of homeostasis - the human body's ability to maintain health and balance on an innate level.

How Does SOT Work?

Sacro Occipital Technic (SOT) is a gentle chiropractic technique that addresses the functional relationship between the Sacrum (base of the spine) the pelvis and the occiput (base of the skull).

One function of the sacrum is to pump Cerebro-Spinal Fluid (CSF) from the base of the spine, up the spinal canal to the brain and throughout the nervous system. The Occiput also helps to pump CSF which acts as the circulatory system of the brain and spinal cord and is essential for optimal health.

The pelvis forms the foundational support of the human skeleton while the spine holds our body upright and creates anchor points to connect and support our organs and muscles which also protects our delicate nervous system. As the control point of the body, the nervous system can only function normally when our body structures are balanced, and the pelvis is stable.

By undertaking a physical assessment of the patient and applying the technique, SOT improves the flow of the cerebral spinal fluid and the foundational support for the skeleton to allow for optimum structure and function.

This homeostatic approach to health is just one of the ways SOT augurs improved health and wellbeing for patients.
